Entry Rules for Tuvalu Citizens
Tuvalu citizens need an Ukraine e-Visa for short stays in 2026. The e-Visa is typically issued for single or double entry and allows a stay of up to 30 days for tourism, business, or private visits. Apply online before travel and carry a printed copy of the approved e-Visa when entering Ukraine.
Timing: submit your application no earlier than 3 months before travel and no later than 10 business days before your planned entry date. Processing is usually 1–3 business days depending on the chosen service.
Passport validity: at the border, your passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay. For the e-Visa application, prepare a passport that remains valid for at least 6 months after your planned entry date to avoid refusal.
COVID-19: Ukraine has no COVID-related entry restrictions in 2026.
Required Documents
At check-in and at the Ukrainian border, be ready to show:
- Passport (valid and in good condition)
- Printed e-Visa (PDF printout is recommended even if you also store it on your phone)
- Medical travel insurance valid for the entire stay
- Proof of trip purpose: hotel booking, invitation letter, return/onward tickets, itinerary, event/business documents
- Proof of sufficient funds for the stay and return
- No active entry ban to Ukraine
Minimum funds formula (2026): Ukraine may calculate the minimum required amount using: FO = ((20 × Pm) ÷ 30) × (Kd + 5), where Pm is the 2026 subsistence minimum (3,209 UAH) and Kd is the number of days in Ukraine. Example: for 10 days, the minimum is about 8,086 UAH.
Accepted proof of funds: cash, bank cards plus a recent statement, prepaid accommodation/tour voucher, or a host’s guarantee letter.
Travel Insurance
A medical insurance policy is required for Tuvalu citizens entering Ukraine. For e-Visa applications, prepare insurance with coverage of at least €30,000 and validity covering your full trip dates.
Because Ukraine remains under martial law in many areas, choose a policy that clearly covers emergency medical care, hospitalization, and evacuation, and check whether it includes war-related risks if you plan to travel beyond low-risk regions. Many travelers arrange suitable coverage through insurance-ukraine.com.
Safety
Ukraine’s security situation can change quickly. Plan routes carefully and follow local instructions.
- Emergency number: dial 112 for all emergency services (fire 101, ambulance 103, gas emergency 104, police 102).
- Air-raid alerts: learn the shelter location near your accommodation and follow alert instructions immediately.
- Checkpoints: carry your passport and e-Visa printout. Follow instructions calmly and avoid filming military sites, personnel, or checkpoints.
- Documents: keep originals secure and carry copies (paper or offline digital) for daily movement.
Customs
Ukraine uses a green and red customs corridor system.
Green corridor (no written declaration, within limits):
- Personal belongings
- Goods up to €500 and 50 kg
- Food for personal use (not for sale) up to €200
- Cash up to €10,000 (or equivalent). Above this, declare and be ready to show bank withdrawal proof
- Medicines (non-narcotic/non-psychotropic): typically up to 5 packages of each medicine per person
Red corridor (written declaration required): goods requiring permits, currency/cultural values, securities/payment documents, controlled medicines (narcotic/psychotropic/precursors), and goods exceeding the green corridor limits. Keep receipts when possible; customs may assess value if documents are missing.
Prohibited to import: narcotic/psychotropic substances, explosives and toxic substances, food without required certification, materials promoting violence/racism/war or pornography, unidentified animals, wanted cultural property, and weapons (including gas sprays) without the required Ukrainian permits.
Export rules (key points): goods under €10,000 can usually be exported without written declaration. Exports above €10,000 must be declared. Certain categories (weapons, controlled substances, cultural/historical values without permission, radioactive/explosive materials, and items violating intellectual property) are prohibited.
Driving
Driving is on the right-hand side in Ukraine. Carry your driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance documents while driving.
Speed limits (typical):
- Residential/pedestrian zones: 20 km/h
- Within settlements (cities/towns): 50 km/h
- Outside settlements: 90 km/h
- Divided roads outside settlements: 110 km/h
- Motorways: 130 km/h
Seat belts: driver and front passenger must wear seat belts. Children under 12 must use appropriate child restraints; children cannot ride in the front seat without a child seat.
Foreign-plate vehicles: foreign nationals may generally drive a foreign-registered car in Ukraine for up to 1 year for personal use. If staying longer than 2 months, temporary registration may be required through a Ministry of Internal Affairs service center. After the one-year period, the vehicle must leave Ukraine.
Checkpoints while driving: slow down early, prepare documents, follow signals, and allow inspection of the trunk/interior if requested. Turn off and remove dashcams from the windshield when approaching checkpoints and avoid using your phone during checks.
